3 Tips for Time Management | OakTree Staffing & Training
We all wish there was a little more time in the day. Despite our best efforts, though, we only have those 24 hours! With the proper time management skills, you can make the most of the working hours that you do have — that means more work gets done and you’ll have more free time to yourself.
Here are three tips for managing your time as effectively as possible:
Far too often, we end up working on low-impact tasks that don’t matter, rather than focusing on the big-ticket items that really need our attention. By prioritizing your time and tasks, you’ll be able to take care of what really matters first, and then finish up the lower-impact items when you have spare time. Make a list of the things you have to accomplish — they can be things you have to get done today, or this week, for instance — and then rank them in order of importance. Now, all you have to do is go down the list and check things off as you go.
Get Organized
Nothing defeats good time management like a cluttered, disorganized workspace and a jumbled, mismanaged schedule. Get these things organized, and you’re already taking a big step toward great time management — and therefore more usable hours in the day.
Organize your physical workspace by putting things in their place. Mark different bins or trays for certain files, and get rid of things that don’t need to sit on your desktop. When it comes to your schedule, lay things out neatly and block off the appropriate times for certain tasks, meetings, etc.
Remove Distractions
It’s extremely hard to get work done when you’re distracted over and over again — do what you can to eliminate distractions while working. Put your phone elsewhere so that you’re not tempted to check social media, wear noise-cancelling headphones to block out background noise, or try relocating to a private space so that you’re able to clearly focus.
