3 Time Management Tips ~ Cory Miller Fitness
While I definitely don’t consider myself the foremost authority on organization or time management, I do feel that I have improved over the last eight years that I have been working on my coach business.
No matter if you are running a business or just running your life, I think these three time management tips will help!
TIP #1 – WRITE IT DOWN
First, you need to figure out your priorities and write them down. For example, when I started building my business eight years ago, my son was almost two and my daughter was only six weeks old, and family time was my top priority.
At the time, I was willing to sacrifice many things to work on my new business, but family time was not one of those things. Two of the things I was willing to sacrifice during that short period of time was sleep and watching TV.
But, it totally depends on YOUR priorities, and yours might be completely different from mine or someone else’s. If you know that you can’t function well without sleep, for example, then that might by one of your priorities.
You also need to figure out your schedule and write that down. You can’t leave your schedule up to chance. It’s just like your health and fitness, if you don’t plan it out, it probably won’t happen.
First, write out your priorities, and then write out your schedule based on your priorities. If you don’t write out your schedule and leave it up to chance, then some of your priorities might naturally come last because life gets in the way. You have to plan it out, whether that is a day in advance or a week in advance, whatever way you find works best.
TIP #2 – BE PRESENT WITH YOUR PRIORITIES
Having been in my business for eight years now, I know that it’s easy to get burned out no matter what goal you are working on. We all have ups and downs and those rollercoaster feelings.
We want to prevent those feelings of burn-out. You have to be present with your priorities. For example, when I go out to dinner with my family, I am not on my phone the whole time. My phone generally stays in my purse. I do this because I know that if I get a work message, I will want to respond to it right away.
One of your priorities may be that you have a certain TV show that you like to watch with your family, and that’s totally fine. But, when you are watching that show together, don’t also have your work out on your laptop or phone. Otherwise, the lines are blurred and you will feel like you never have any down-time.
TIP #3 – USE THE TIME THAT YOU HAVE
Everyone has a different schedule and time available to work on different things, so you have to use the time you have. As a full-time coach and with my kids in school part-time now, I have more time to work on my business goals now than I did when I started eight years ago.
No matter how much time you have, it is so important to avoid time-wasters! One major time-waster is scrolling through the Facebook newsfeed because it has a tendency to suck us in and send us off into a distracting tangent.
Even if you only have very limited time to work on your goals, you have to find pockets of time. Maybe that could be getting up 30 minutes before your kids get up in the morning or using those routine 15-minutes you wait in the car pool line at your kid’s school every day to return messages or even to write out your schedule!
No matter if you are running a new business or just running your life, I think you can apply these three simple tips to get better at time management! 🙂
